 “Today our War Heroes are honoured not only in Sri Lanka but throughout the world for their courage, determination and leadership in defeating LTTE terrorists. Soon after defeating the terrorists in Sri Lanka they are now engaged in another great operation to ensure human rights and to provide essential necessities to the innocent people who suffered under the cruel terrorism for years” said Niranjan Patabandige, the President of the New Zealand Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka ( SPUR New Zealand ) at the National War Heroes Day celebrations held in Auckland, New Zealand.

Auckland Sri Lankans Commemorate the Ranaviru Day – Saturday, 7 June 2008

Sri Lankans in Auckland Commemorated the “Ranaviruwos” on 07 June 2008 at the MC Centre in the Sri Lankaramaya, Otahuhu. The event was organised by the New Zealand Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights in Sri Lanka ( SPUR NZ) with Sri Lanka Returned Services Association New Zealand (SLRSANZ). More than 200 people attended event.

Multi-Ethnic Demonstration in Sweden against LTTE Terrorism – Monday, 31 March 2008

 Stockholm. 31 March, (Asiantribune.com): A multi-ethnic demonstration against terrorism of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was held with the participation of Sri Lankans living in Sweden in front of the Stockholm cultural house (Sergels Torg) on Saturday 29th March, from 11.00 am to 2.00 pm, to urge the Swedish and the European Union authorities to ban forthwith the LTTE activities in Sweden.

Ranaviru Cultural Troupe Feted in L A – Thursday, 6 March 2008

 Los Angeles, 29 February, (Asiantribune.com):Ranaviru Cultural troupe that toured the US attracting thousands were felicitated by the Consular General and Mrs Jaliya Wickramasuriya to a dinner on Sunday February 17th 2008. Dr. Mohan Kumararatne, President of Ranaviru Foundation USA and members of the Foundation as well as over 150 guests were present. The cultural troupe was headed by Lt. Col. Ampe Mohotti, who is also a physically challenged veteran. Other physically challenged veterans were represented by Warrant Officer M.A.U.A.W.M. Upali.

Sri Lankans protest in front of UNESCO in Paris – Friday, 21 December 2007

 Paris, 21 December, (Asiantribune.com):Large number of Sri Lankans in France held a demonstration in front of the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on yesterday afternoon to protest against the statement made by Koichiro Matsuura, Director General of UNESCO, condemning the air strike on LTTE radio station, Voice of Tigers. Coordinator of the protest, Manel Gunaeardane of the French Committee of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) handed over a letter addressed to Mr Matsuura demanding immediate retraction of his statement. The letter was accepted by the Deputy Security Chief of UNESCO.
